Redwood Cares Foundation Expands Community Commitment & Investor Engagement
Redwood Living, Inc. is building on its longstanding commitment to giving back with the formation of the Redwood Cares Foundation, an Ohio nonprofit corporation established to support qualified charitable organizations that strengthen communities and serve those in need.
The new foundation formalizes Redwood’s philanthropic efforts and provides a dedicated structure to support Redwood Cares, the company’s annual giving initiative that launched in 2022 and invites Redwood’s investors, employees and residents to nominate nonprofit organizations that are important to them. Two organizations from each group are selected annually to receive a monetary donation from Redwood, along with volunteer and awareness support.
“Our investors bring a valuable perspective to Redwood, including the causes and organizations they care about in their own communities,” said Steve Kimmelman, founder and CEO of Redwood. “Redwood Cares gives us an opportunity to learn from that perspective and support organizations making a real difference. The Redwood Cares Foundation provides a stronger platform to continue that work and deepen our commitment to the communities we all share.”
In 2025/2026, the following organizations nominated by Redwood investors were selected:
- Free Bikes 4 Kidz Detroit is the eighth of 20 FB4K affiliates across the U.S. Since beginning its mission in Detroit in 2018, FB4K Detroit has given away more than 14,000 bikes to kids in need throughout the community. In the last sixteen years FB4K affiliates across the country have given away 200,000 bikes and counting.
Excerpt from submission: Last year FB4KD collected, refurbished and distributed 2,229 bikes along with a brand-new helmet with every bike. So far in 2025 FB4KD has collected over 2,500 bikes. In the coming weeks, those bikes, with the help of well over 1,000 volunteers, will be refurbished and given away around the holidays to schools, churches, neighborhood groups and bike clubs in Detroit. - In Step With Horses provides trauma-informed mental health services through connections with animals and nature. Based on a private farm, the organization brings together licensed mental health professionals, equine professionals and trained therapy animals to create a safe environment for children, teens and adults working to improve their mental health.
Excerpt from submission: While I’ve been fortunate to serve a number of organizations over the years, my In Step With Horses experience has been very inspirational. I frankly had little idea how pervasive and devastating mental illness is and now understand that it 1) is more prevalent now among our children and teens than ever before, 2) destroys lives, families and communities, and 3) still is stigmatized, misunderstood and too often ignored in society. Set on a private farm, the program provides an emotionally safe space for children, teens and adults to improve their mental health.
